Freezing Harrison's Empty Freezing Harrison's

Post  The Bird Guy Wed Nov 17, 2010 8:45 am

Q: I normally buy the 1 lb. bag of High Potency Fine bird food for my green-cheek conure, but the vet's office only had the 5 lb bag. They told me I could freeze the food and it would last, but the only information I could find online in your FAQ forums still say the food should be eaten within 4-6 after opening. Is it OK to freeze the food for later? I was planning on refilling my current 1 lb bag and freezing the rest of the 5 lb. bag in it's original bag. Please advise. Thank you.

A:
Freezing Harrison's is recommended as it slow the breakdown processes that occur naturally but we do recommend feeding an open bag past six weeks.
